Includes over 200 engineering reference sources, with the latest editions of Marks Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers, Perry's Chemical Engineers Handbook, Standard Handbook for Electrical Engineers, Roark's Formulas for Stress and Strain, and many more.

Contains published crystallographic data on organic, organometallic, and metal complex structures whose 3D structures have been determined using X-ray diffraction or neutron diffraction.  The following search functionality is available in WebCSD: full text and numeric searching, reduced cell searching, 2D substructure searching, and 2D structure similarity searching.

More complex searches, including 3D substructure searching, can be performed with the desktop client applications (ConQuest, Mercury, Vista, etc).  Contact Jim Britten in the Chemistry department for more information on the client interface.

Coverage:
1969 to present

Contains citations, abstracts and some full-text to more than 5,000 engineering journals, conferences and reports. Subject coverage includes chemical and process engineering, computers and data processing, applied physics, electronics and communications as well as civil and mechanical engineering.

The Library's subscription to CSA On Demand includes the following areas: construction and engineering; electrical; energy; environmental; health and safety; mechanical and industrial equipment; quality and business management systems.  We do not have access to the Information Technology and Telecommunication standards. The platform provides read-only access to the fulltext, and .pdfs can be downloaded for offline reading.

A gateway to several scientific, applied science, technical and engineering-related databases, collections, and services, chiefly Compendex and Inspec. Updated weekly.

Numeric database containing records of inorganic crystal structures, with atomic coordinates, published since 1915.  For organic or organometallic structures, see the Cambridge Crystallographic Structure Database.

The JoVE Biology Journal presents more than 2000 videos demonstrating techniques and experimental approaches in the fields of cellular, molecular, and organismal biology.

JoVE Science Education is is a video database dedicated to teaching laboratory fundamentals through simple, easy to understand demonstrations.  Collections include:

  • Basic Biology – General Laboratory Techniques, Basic Methods in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Essentials of Biology 1: yeast, Drosophila and C. elegans, and Essentials of Biology 2: Mouse, Zebrafish, and Chick
  • Advanced Biology – Essentials of Neuroscience, Developmental Biology, Genetics, and Cell Biology
  • Chemistry – Essentials of General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Biochemistry

Contains more than 21,000 diagrams for non-organic systems, including those published in all 21 hard-copy volumes produced as part of the ACerS-NIST Phase Equilibria Diagrams Program (formerly titled Phase Diagrams for Ceramists).  The database additionally contains over 1,200 new phase diagrams labeled as “Volume 15” that are only available in electronic format.

Contains over 50 million articles from over 23,000 full text journals covering many disciplines.

1976 to the present

A multi-disciplinary science database that indexes over 6,000 journals from a variety of science disciplines. Database offers searching by topic, author, address, journal title, etc. and a Cited Reference search. Full text links are available for journals to which McMaster subscribes through the getit! link.

Includes access to the EndNote web citation manager (see link at top of  Web of Science screen). Accounts must initially be created from within the McMaster IP range.

Provides a critical review of synthetic methodology developed to-date in the fields of organic and organometallic chemistry.  Includes: Houben-Weyl Archive, Science of Synthesis Knowledge Updates and Science of Synthesis Reference Library.

Coverage:
Varies by title

Provides online access to over 2,000 journals published by Elsevier from their first volumes to current, with strong collections in the social sciences, pure and applied sciences, engineering, and medicine.  This service allows you to browse or search the journals and access full text articles (PDF & HTML).  McMaster has access to most, but not all journals on this site.

SciFinder by Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) enables users to search online the Chemical Abstracts family of databases. SciFinder is searchable by chemical structure, chemical name, CAS Registry Number, molecular formula, chemical reaction, research topic, author name, specific reference (abstract number or patent number),company name/organization and table of contents of selected journals.

The following databases are available through SciFinder: CA Plus - an enhanced version of Chemical Abstracts, 1907 to present;  CAS Registry - a database of chemical structures and names indexed by CAS from 1957 to present; CASREACT - includes records of single and multistep chemical reactions from the Organic and Organometallic sections of Chemical Abstracts from journals (1985 to present) and patents (1991 to present); CHEMCATS - database of commercial suppliers for chemical compounds, 1996-2001 catalogs and chemical libraries; CHEMLIST - regulatory information records from 1979 to present; MEDLINE - medical database with coverage from 1958 to present

Identifies, acquires, catalogues, digitizes and provides unrestricted access to U.S. government agency technical reports.
