Just in time for the summer and convocation, the LinkedIn Learning Club @ McMaster debuts with a series of videos focused on interview preparation for McMaster students.

This month’s offerings have been selected by Maleeka Munroe, a master of science student, and Eline Gonzalez, a third-year bachelor of science student, who are LinkedIn Learning ambassadors at McMaster.

Pasha Malla, the author of poetry and fiction works — including Kill the Mall, The Withdrawal Method and People Park — is wrapping up his stint as the Mabel Pugh Taylor Writer in Residence following a year of workshops, consultations with writers, and teaching.

Canadian orchestra conductor and classical music ambassador Boris Brott was affectionately referred to by those who knew him well as “Maestro,” a nod to his esteemed musical talent and leadership.

If so, you can now apply for a wide array of job opportunities at McMaster library.

Student roles have been posted on Mosaic, offered through the McMaster Student Work Program.

“We encourage students to consider joining our team for the summer,” said Chris Nicol, human resources manager for the university library. “These jobs provide meaningful employment experience that they can display on their resumes and highlight in future job interviews.”

Students hoping for extended access to McMaster University libraries during April exam season are in luck.

Beginning April 10, Mills and Thode libraries will feature increased hours to accommodate a rise in the number of students looking for additional study time in library spaces.

The university is also offering a number of classrooms starting April 14 where students can write an online exam.

Students are reminded to complete their daily MacCheck before coming to campus, and respect the appropriate masking and food policies, as indicated.
 

Since the start of his teaching career at McMaster University 13 years ago, Chad Harvey has been unable to find the perfect textbook for his students.

Harvey, associate professor of the School of Interdisciplinary Science at McMaster University, saw the Open Educational Resources Grant program as an opportunity to solve this problem.

Looking to caption that video you are screening for students during an in-person lecture or tutorial, but don’t know how?

The Library Accessibility Services team is here to help, with free video captioning available to McMaster instructors.

“There are many good reasons to use captions,” said Nancy Waite, Library Accessibility Services coordinator. “Whether it is learning new terminology or helping those with learning disabilities, captions are important. It also enables those with hearing loss to obtain content as the rest of the audience would.”

A celebration of the open education movement is the motivation behind a lineup of virtual events offered by McMaster University.  

Open Education Week, set for March 7 to 11, is an annual event highlighting the latest successes in open education, providing an opportunity for educators, practitioners, and students to gain an understanding of open educational practices and be inspired by the wealth of open educational resources available. 

A new resource offered through McMaster University Library is sharing insight into the influence of McMaster’s research.

Altmetric Explorer for Institutions enables users to monitor attention surrounding academic research, allowing researchers, research support staff, and management to explore the “buzz” around their scholarly work, from social media impact to policy inclusion.

McMaster University Libraries and the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) are pleased to announce that Omni is coming to McMaster.

The academic search tool will connect McMaster libraries with 17 other libraries at Ontario universities. Omni, which will be part of a new library services platform at McMaster, is set to go live in summer 2022.
