The McMaster University Library ambassador program is back for its third consecutive year with a dynamic team of new and returning ambassadors.

Led by Ariel Stables-Kennedy, first year experience librarian, the library ambassador program helps McMaster students navigate library services and spaces through peer-to-peer engagement in person and online.

During the fall and winter terms, the ambassadors will plan engaging events, produce creative Instagram content, and inform students of the many ways McMaster library can support their learning.

Back by popular demand, the McMaster University Library 2022-23 Impact Report is now available.

This second edition of the magazine offers readers an inside look at the library’s strategic work from the past year, as told through engaging stories and beautiful images.

“When people think about libraries, they naturally think about books,” said Vivian Lewis, McMaster University Librarian. “In addition to our wonderful collection of books and electronic resources, the university library is an integral partner in the teaching, learning, and research that drives McMaster.”

McMaster University researchers looking for help with their data management plans have a new made-at-McMaster resource.

The data management plan database brings together more than 180 plans and related resources from around the world into a central open-access online platform. It is intended is to remove the uncertainty in creating a data management plan and help researchers meet related funding requirements.

Lyons New Media Centre is expanding its offerings this fall with two new spaces for the McMaster community to learn and create.

Earlier this month, the group podcast studio opened for online reservations for McMaster students, faculty, and staff, and the virtual reality room is set to open in the coming weeks. The fresh additions complement the centre’s existing lineup of media services and spaces.

The Lewis and Ruth Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship has launched its 2023-2024 workshops, with over 40 sessions on subjects ranging from 3D printing and website design to digital map-making and data sharing.

The free workshops are open to McMaster faculty, students, staff, as well as anyone interested beyond of the university. Many workshops are beginner-friendly allowing those new to digital scholarship to participate in training opportunities.

Fourteen McMaster University faculty, instructional assistants, and staff are receiving grants to support nine projects that will foster the creation of free online textbooks and other openly licensed digital educational materials.

A new exhibition coming to McMaster University Library is calling attention to the likely unfamiliar history of women in the printing trades.

Launching this fall, “Wherein She Plainly Shews:” Women of the Printing Trades in the Hand-Press Era will celebrate some of the many thousands of women who actively contributed to the print industry in western Europe before 1800. Ruth-Ellen St. Onge, distinctive collections cataloguing librarian, and Myron Groover, archives and rare books librarian, worked together to curate the display.

Paige Maylott fell in love with storytelling before she could write.

At a young age, Maylott would sit her mother down at the kitchen table and tell reimagined endings to her favourite television series and movies while her mother affectionately transcribed her words on paper.

When she became old enough to write, Maylott began drafting short graphic novels about her favourite video game characters and other pop culture topics.

McMaster University Library is inviting the community to take part in a year of engaging programming centred around gender and justice.  

In collaboration with campus and community partners, Transformative Stories: Year of Gender and Justice will help bring attention to the library’s gender and justice focused collections, resources, and expertise, as well as the related work and stories throughout McMaster and Hamilton.
