Looking to caption that video you are screening for students during an in-person lecture or tutorial, but don’t know how?

The Library Accessibility Services team is here to help, with free video captioning available to McMaster instructors.

“There are many good reasons to use captions,” said Nancy Waite, Library Accessibility Services coordinator. “Whether it is learning new terminology or helping those with learning disabilities, captions are important. It also enables those with hearing loss to obtain content as the rest of the audience would.”

A celebration of the open education movement is the motivation behind a lineup of virtual events offered by McMaster University.  

Open Education Week, set for March 7 to 11, is an annual event highlighting the latest successes in open education, providing an opportunity for educators, practitioners, and students to gain an understanding of open educational practices and be inspired by the wealth of open educational resources available. 

A new resource offered through McMaster University Library is sharing insight into the influence of McMaster’s research.

Altmetric Explorer for Institutions enables users to monitor attention surrounding academic research, allowing researchers, research support staff, and management to explore the “buzz” around their scholarly work, from social media impact to policy inclusion.

McMaster University Libraries and the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) are pleased to announce that Omni is coming to McMaster.

The academic search tool will connect McMaster libraries with 17 other libraries at Ontario universities. Omni, which will be part of a new library services platform at McMaster, is set to go live in summer 2022.

University developing strategy as part of Tri-Agency policy; survey now live

A working group with pan-University representation has started laying the groundwork for an institutional strategy on research data management (RDM) at McMaster University. 

RDM is the active organization and maintenance of data throughout its life cycle — from study design and planning, to collection and interpretation, to dissemination, long-term preservation, and reuse.

While RDM doesn’t make headlines here at McMaster, we would have few research stories to share without it.
