Myron Groover, archives and rare books librarian at McMaster University Library, is set to kick off a new season of public talks presented by the Hamilton Association for the Advancement of Literature, Science and Art.

Groover will explore several early books at the public lecture, entitled, “New Books Will Be Needed:” History, Magic, and Nature in Early Print, taking place in September.

Saman Goudarzi’s eyes light up when she opens a drawer in the maps room at Mills Memorial Library.

As McMaster’s cartographic resources librarian, she pulls a map and expertly speaks about what it shows, noting its special features.

Goudarzi’s role is both challenging and exciting as curator of an expansive collection that includes tens of thousands of maps dating as far back as 1486.

McMaster University Library is hiring students to fill a variety of roles for the 2022-23 academic year.

The job opportunities, ranging from library ambassadors to Thode Makerspace assistants, are now posted on Mosaic through McMaster’s student work program.

“The library is a hub for the campus community, and we have a wide variety of exciting employment opportunities for McMaster students,” said Chris Nicol, human resources manager for the library. “Working at the library is a rewarding experience for our students and can inspire them to pursue related careers.”

McMaster University’s Research Data Management (RDM) Services and Institutional Strategy Working Group are inviting feedback on current and ideal RDM visioning documents from faculty, graduate students, research staff, and other McMaster researchers.

RDM is a set of practices to plan for, collect, organize, document, store, preserve, and share research data. This process increases research visibility, generates new collaborations, enables verification of results, and fosters a culture of reproducible research.

McMaster University students, staff, and faculty can now use the search tool, Omni, through the library’s new catalogue to request shared physical resources from across 18 Ontario academic institutions.

This will allow McMaster users to draw from a collection of approximately 25.3 million items, such as books, journals, and government documents.

Anabelle Ragsag, a PhD student in McMaster's School of Social Work, has been announced as the inaugural recipient of the Stephen Lewis Fellowship.

Ragsag will spend the next year analyzing the Stephen Lewis archive housed at the William Ready Division of Archives and Research Collections at McMaster University Library to develop a deeper understanding of Lewis’s work and his contribution to social policy in Canada.

Danica Evering brings a robust resume of skills and experience to her new role as a research data management specialist at McMaster.

Launching her career at an international arts organization engaged in social practice, Evering coordinated outreach and programming for several multi-year projects in regional and international cities.

She went on to work as education officer at Humber Galleries, expanding the gallery’s education and engagement activities across programs at Humber College.

The newest LinkedIn Learning Club @ McMaster campaign is aimed at helping to prepare students for a successful fall term by covering the basics of using Microsoft’s most popular apps.

Throughout August, McMaster students using their free LinkedIn Learning accounts will have access to a collection of videos that provide insight on navigating Microsoft’s most-used software products, from Outlook to Excel.

This month’s campaign was curated by Eline Gonzalez, a fourth-year bachelor of science student and LinkedIn Learning ambassador.

H.G. Thode Library of Science and Engineering will be temporarily closed for August but will reopen in time for the start of the 2022 fall term.

The library will be closed as of Monday, Aug. 1, welcoming students back on the first day of the fall term on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
