Fourteen McMaster University faculty, instructional assistants, and staff are receiving grants to support nine projects that will foster the creation of free online textbooks and other openly licensed digital educational materials.

A new exhibition coming to McMaster University Library is calling attention to the likely unfamiliar history of women in the printing trades.

Launching this fall, “Wherein She Plainly Shews:” Women of the Printing Trades in the Hand-Press Era will celebrate some of the many thousands of women who actively contributed to the print industry in western Europe before 1800. Ruth-Ellen St. Onge, distinctive collections cataloguing librarian, and Myron Groover, archives and rare books librarian, worked together to curate the display.

Paige Maylott fell in love with storytelling before she could write.

At a young age, Maylott would sit her mother down at the kitchen table and tell reimagined endings to her favourite television series and movies while her mother affectionately transcribed her words on paper.

When she became old enough to write, Maylott began drafting short graphic novels about her favourite video game characters and other pop culture topics.

McMaster University Library is inviting the community to take part in a year of engaging programming centred around gender and justice.  

In collaboration with campus and community partners, Transformative Stories: Year of Gender and Justice will help bring attention to the library’s gender and justice focused collections, resources, and expertise, as well as the related work and stories throughout McMaster and Hamilton. 

Jaclyn Desforges was breastfeeding her newborn daughter at three in the morning when she decided to become a creative writer.

After years of dancing around her dream by ghostwriting, copywriting, and writing lifestyle articles, Jaclyn felt professionally unsatisfied. In the middle of the night, she decided to go for it.

McMaster University Library’s vast collection of online resources has expanded with an assortment of new materials to support teaching and learning.

Dozens of new resources were added this year by the library’s Content, Access, and Open Licensing team with the goal of enhancing and diversifying the library’s electronic offerings. The selection of latest acquisitions includes academic video streaming sources, and resources related to Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Wenjun Jiang is delighted to be a part of a team that is integral to providing the McMaster community with access to important materials.

With the fall term around the corner, the LinkedIn Learning Club @ McMaster is helping to ensure students are set up for academic success.

During August and September, McMaster University students using their free LinkedIn Learning accounts will have access to a collection of video courses that offer helpful tips for improving performance and supporting personal well-being in academic and professional settings.

The campaign, entitled McMaster’s Declassified School Survival Guide, was created by Matt Aksamit, a McMaster student and LinkedIn Learning ambassador.

Kate Oruc says working at McMaster University Library has given her the opportunity to foster her interest in history, as told through rare materials.

Oruc, who is going into her fourth year of a combined major in anthropology and society, culture & religion, has worked at the library since summer 2022. She started off as a library digitization assistant and is now working as an archives and research collections assistant.

In January 1962, nearly eight years after being stripped of his security clearance by the Atomic Energy Commission, J. Robert Oppenheimer delivered three talks at McMaster as part of the Whidden Lectures.

Oppenheimer’s 1962 lecture series, “The Flying Trapeze: Three Crises for Physicists,” addressed three areas of his concern, Space and Time, Atom and Field, and War and the Nations. The lectures were recorded, transcribed and published as a book in 1964.
