Some of the most visually stunning books in the world, housed in the collections of McMaster University Library, will be front and centre at a free public talk in late June.

Audiences will get a virtual look into the pages of the sumptuously decorated editions published in the late 1800s by British textile designer William Morris and his renowned Kelmscott Press.

The virtual talk is part of McMaster’s popular Archives Alive series. The event, entitled, "The Whole Scheme of the Book": William Morris and the Kelmscott Press, is set for June 23 at 12:30 p.m.

It was May 25, 1979, when globally renowned humanitarian, diplomat and activist Stephen Lewis first became a part of the McMaster University family. 

During the convocation ceremony that day, Lewis, who was receiving the first of his 42 honorary degrees, spoke to graduates and their families with his trademark eloquence. 

Up-and-coming filmmakers, including McMaster University students, are being offered a chance to shine at the Hamilton Youth Film Festival.

The non-competitive showcase, now in its fifth year, is currently welcoming film submissions from youth and young adults in the Hamilton community and beyond.

An upcoming Archives Alive event, presented by McMaster University Library and McMaster Alumni, is giving audiences an in-depth look at one of the most famous abolitionist newspapers in history.

The virtual talk takes place on May 6 at 1 p.m. and is entitled, "And I will be heard": Voices from the American Abolitionist Movement in the Liberator. Presented by Sarah Whitwell, the event focuses on the impact of the Liberator and how it provided space for Black narratives from 1831-65.
