Recent Acquisitions
This listing documents the material that has come after the first two accruals from Bertrand Russell or his estate. When making requests please include the box number and Recent acquisition number if you are able.
Most of this material is described in more detail in other places. Correspondence is described in the BRACERS database, manuscripts, photographs, and artwork in their own separate listings. Those sources are linked with each entry and researchers should consult these first. In the few instances where they have not been described elsewhere, a description has been provided here. This includes things like audio-visual material and artifacts that fall outside other listings.
With any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the archives for assistance: russarch@mcmaster.ca
Note: Recent Acquisition terminology and usage. Depending on the location the items below are variously referred to as ‘Recent Acquisition’, ‘Rec. Acq.’ or ‘RA3’ followed by the number of the item in question. These can and are used interchangeably in publications from the archives and in the Russell journal.

The first is the final cut with interviews of Joseph Rotblat, Malcolm Muggeridge, Fenner Brockway (who remembers how beautiful Colette was), Michael Burn (with a short vocal imitation of BR), Dora Russell (who focuses first on ED but concludes with “a great man”, “great in his mind and great in his imagination”), and, at length, the late Ralph Schoenman (who defends much). There is also an interview on women/feminism by Marhanita Laski during which BR maintains his point of view that neither sex is better than the other. There are good clips of BR demonstrating (and one poor one). There is an unchallenged news clipping of the “lying report” of the Westminster speech (20 Nov. 1948). The last words are BR’s, having already referred to the nuclear “satanic schemes”: “I can’t bear the thought of many hundreds of millions of people dying in agony only and solely because the rulers of the world are stupid and wicked. I can’t bear it.” Focus is not just on anti-nuclear, includes footage from earlier film "The Life and Times of Bertrand Russell", plus footage from Nobel ceremony and "Prospects of Mankind". The other four cassettes are unedited footage for the documentary. Digital copy available.
