Finding Aid
The Bertrand Russell fonds is over 800 boxes. The material is divided into four broad divisions: RA1 and RA2 are the first two parts of the archive donated directly by Russell and his Estate. RA3 consists of thousands of smaller accruals that have been acquired from other sources. The fourth and most recent division is RA4: a large amount of material from the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation.
Within these broad division the majority of the material has been divided again into Series or Classes: smaller, logical categories such as publishing correspondence, photographs, personal correspondence etc.
The listing below is meant to give you a general overview of most of the archive: What you will find:
- A very brief description of what is in each box in RA1 and RA2 and the Class/Series it is associated with. Typically this is the information printed on the box label and includes the Class number and description followed by the range covered in the box.
- Information related to more detailed listings, either online or in print, are linked to inline or at right. Look to the 'Finding Aid' section for details.
- The series are listed for RA4 with a link to the separate detailed listing inline or to the left.
A note about RA3: Much of this material is accounted for in the larger finding aid or in BRACERS. A full listing of this material is in process.
A note about EMBARGOED material: Boxes with this note are restricted in some or in part. Please contact the archives to inquire if the material you are interested in is available or not.
