St. John's Anglican Church
St. John's Anglican Church (Farewell, Ont.) fonds. -- 1903-1968. -- 16 cm of textual records.
St. John's Church was built in 1892. Except for the period 1904-1913, the congregation was served by the Rector of St. Paul's in Mount Forest, Ont. St. John's was joined with St. George's in Harriston, Ont. in 1946. St. John's was deconsecrated on 30 June 1968 and its congregation joined St. Paul's in Mount Forest, Ont. The fonds consists of parish registers containing statistical records, Vestry Minutes, and a financial register. Most of fonds has been microfilmed on 4 reels, numbered 9-11, 14. Researchers should also consult the following fonds: St. Paul's Anglican Church (Mount Forest, Ont.) and St. George's Anglican Church (Harriston, Ont.).
Title based on content of fonds.
Fonds on deposit. Ownership of the fonds resides with St. John's Church.
Finding aid available in hard copy and electronically.
Researchers are requested to use the microfilms. They must also sign an agreement of use form.
Further accruals are not expected.
Historical Notes
St. John's Church, Farewell, was opened and dedicated on October 23, 1892. Up until 1886, people from Farewell were part of Trinity Church, North Arthur.
St. John's Church was served by the rector of St. Paul's Church, Mount Forest until 1968, except for the period from 1904-1913, when St. John's had its own rector. In 1946 Farewell was joined with St. George's Church, Harriston, where the rector lived. On June 30, 1968, St. John's Church was deconsecrated and its congregation joined with St. Paul's Church, Mount Forest.
