St. George's Anglican Church (Lowville, Ont.) fonds. -- 1870-1974. -- 25 cm of textual records.

The fonds consists of parish registers containing statistical records, services, Vestry and Young People's Association minutes, Sunday School attendance, Young People's Association and Church Women's accounts and visitors' books. Historical Notes

According to the Church History (q.v.) an undenominational Sunday School was being held in the Lowville area as early as 1836. Services were subsequently conducted in a frame house on Concession #4, with Dr. Green of Port Nelson (Burlington) or Rev. Graham of Nassagaweya officiating, until 1857. The first church was opened in October 1857, with services being supplied by ministers from Waterdown, Nelson and Carlise. These records date only from 1870, when Rev. Thomas Hall took joint charge of Lowville and Nassagaweya. The present church was opened in 1896.

Because of the close inter-relation between the churches in this area, the researcher is advised to examine also the records of St.Luke, Burlington, St. John, Nassagaweya and Grace Church, Waterdown.
