Study spaces in Mills and Thode Libraries are organized into zones reflecting the noise level and activities expected in the space. This allows you to find a study space that matches your learning needs during your visit.

About Study Spaces Overview

Associated with each library study space is a set of expectations, benefits, and cautions, and we encourage you to select an area that best fits the work you need to get done in the Library. Each of the library study spaces establishes basic expectations for acceptable behaviour that are enforced under the Regulations Governing Personal Behaviour.

Expectation: Ambient noise will be created through small groups working collaboratively.

Benefits: Work productively in groups or individually with some noise and distractions.

Cautions: Moderate-volume conversation is fine, but no loud noise, music, or rowdiness.

Quiet Study

Quiet Study

Expectation: Low-volume conversation and individual quiet study. Cell phones set to vibrate or silent. Use electronics with headphones.

Benefits: Work productively in the presence of others.

Cautions: Quiet conversations are fine, but loud noise, music, or rowdiness.

Silent Study

Expectation: Silence – no talking, whispering, or music. Cell phones set to silent. Noise from headphones must not be audible to others. Food noises are unwelcome.

Benefits: Work productively in a silent environment for problem-solving, reflection, and concentration.

Cautions: Noise is not tolerated.
