A Wintering Area is a polygon feature that identifies an area in which a species habitually winters. Different Wintering Area types collected by the Natural Resources Values Information System (NRVIS) include:
- Bat Hibernaculum
- Caribou Wintering Area
- Deer Wintering Area (Stratum 2)
- Deer Wintering Area (Stratum 1)
- Elk Wintering Area
- Moose Early Wintering Area
- Moose Late Wintering Area
- Snake Hibernaculum
- Waterfowl Winter Concentration Area
