This accrual is arranged into the following series:
Series 1: Manuscripts and related materials. – 1992-2019. – 3.05 m of textual records; 50 floppy disks (3.5”); 1 photograph: col.
Series groupings and file arrangement have been supplied by the processing archivist following functional analysis and assessment of the received order of the files.
Series 1
Manuscripts and related materials. – 1992-2019. – 3.05 m of textual records; 50 floppy disks (3.5”); 1 photograph: col.
Series contains manuscripts of Manley’s published non-fiction and fiction works, including Drumblair (1996), Slipstream (2000), Horses in Her Hair (2008), The Black Peacock (2017), and The Fellowship (2019). Some manuscripts for Manley’s non-fiction essays are included. Manley’s poetry manuscripts and related materials are not present. Files also include research notes, correspondence, book contracts, and publicity ephemera.
The processing archivist has maintained all correspondence in its original files. Significant correspondents have been noted at the file level. Key persons include Israel Cinman (Manley’s husband), Denise Bukowski (her literary agent), Noelle Zitzer (an editor at Knopf Canada), Linda Pruessen (an editor at Key Porter Books), and Marc Côté (President of Cormorant Books). Handwritten annotations are featured across all manuscripts, as are tracked changes in computer printouts; the processing archivist has identified the editor when it was apparent, but in most instances, this was unclear.
Records are grouped according to publication; publications are then arranged chronologically. Records related to Manley’s non-fiction essays and miscellaneous items are included at the end of the series. This arrangement corresponds to the received order of the files.
Record types include research files; correspondence; computer printouts of manuscripts; some digital versions of manuscripts and research files (on floppy disks); and publicity files with review clippings and promotional tour notes.
