Series 1
I Want to Be Your Dog materials. – 1990-1996. – ca. 20 cm of textual records (includes 123 original pages; 3 boxes total).
Series contains records pertaining to Ho Che Anderson’s work I Want to Be Your Dog, an erotic comic released under the Eros Comix imprint of Fantagraphics. Dog was first published in five issues, each roughly 24-33 pages in length: one (16 Oct. 1990); two (19 Nov. 1990); three (5 Dec. 1990); four (3 July 1991); and five (4 Sept. 1991). The original series was edited by Larry Pike; the comic was created, written, pencilled, inked, and lettered by Anderson. Anderson also created cover art for each issue.
In December 1996, Eros released a revised collected edition of the comic which added new pages of erotic content. This volume was edited by Kim Thompson. Anderson served as writer and artist for new pages in this edition as well.
Records in the series include Anderson’s scripts and notes for all issues, as well as 123 original pages for the comic, most of which are fully inked and lettered. Pages are in black and white unless otherwise noted. Records are arranged in their original order, which corresponds to the page order in the 1996 collected edition. Not all pages from the comic are present in the series.

Series contains records pertaining to Ho Che Anderson’s work Miles from Home, a digital comic released by Fantagraphics in July 2013. Miles features characters from I Want to Be Your Dog. The comic was edited by Eric Reynolds and Gary Groth; Anderson served as writer and artist, as well as assisting with production.
Records in the series include two of Anderson’s original paintings for the front and back matter of the comic; 24 original pages, many of which are fully inked but not lettered (lettering for this edition appears to have been added digitally); and various separation sheets and overlays for printing. Pages from two different drafts are present. Records are arranged in their original order, which corresponds to the page order in the final published edition. Not all pages from the comic are present in the series.

Series comprises Anderson’s mostly unpublished artwork from the 1980s-1990s, including fashion illustrations, portfolio drawings, and artwork and lettering for early stories. Some artwork in this series was published in Anderson’s 2024 book The Most Embarrassing Things I’ve Ever Done: Drawings 1986-1991 (Toronto: Black Eye Books). Other files relate to the following publications: Black Dogs (Fantagraphics, 1993); Wise Son: The White Wolf (Milestone Media, 1996); Pop Life (1998-2001, Fantagraphics); and Miles from Home (2013, Fantagraphics).
Files contain original artwork, inked and lettered pages for cartoons, and individual sheets of lettering. Lettering and illustrations are predominantly hand drawn, with some exceptions. Some pages are hand coloured with watercolour, gouache, chalk pastel, and Doc Marten’s dyes. Paper is usually lightweight watercolour paper. Artwork is in a range of sizes, the largest measuring 48 x 61 cm, the most common measuring 30 x 45 cm, and the smallest 10 x 4 cm.
The finding aid preserves the creator’s original titles; the spelling of these titles varies throughout (e.g. Madame Toussead story). Note that some pages feature sexually explicit scenes. ‘1 page’ indicates what in cataloguing terminology would be a leaf – 1 sheet comprising two sides.
