F.1 General correspondence, 1800s. 14 items. Correspondence to and from various members of the Reid, Mclachlan, and Simpson families, particularly the Reid children (George and Anne in particular) writing to their mother.
F.2 Thomas Basset Reid India correspondence, 1832-1837. 8 items. Correspondence from T.B. Reids early years in India to members of his family in Scotland, particularly his mother. He was stationed predominantly in Peshawar during this time.
F.3 Thomas Basset Reid India correspondence, 1841-1860. 10 items. Correspondence from T.B. Reids later years in India to members of his family in Scotland, particularly his mother. During this time period he rose to the rank of assistant surgeon and then full surgeon. He was stationed mostly in Peshawar, but made several trips back to the United Kingdom during this time period.
F.4 Bereavement. 15 items. A number of funerary announcements, bereavement notices, and funeral invitations chronicling the demise of members of the Reid family and their friends. Most items are on black-edged funerary stationary and many are embossed in black wax with the family seal.
F.5 Envelopes and enclosures. 9 items. The collection contained a number of loose envelopes and enclosures which record a number of street addresses associated with the Reid-Simpson family during the 19th century.
F.6 Legal and administrative documents. 28 items. A rich collection of documents charting the accomplishments and milestones of many Reid-Simpson family members. Included here are Thomas Basset Reid the elders guild and business licenses from the City of London (most on parchment), Thomas Basset Reid the youngers initiation certificate as a Freemason, George Reids engineering certificate, Anne Reids qualification and various promotions as a schoolteacher, and the wills of several family members. Also present are several baptismal records, banns, and marriage certificates for various members of the family. The most recent document is Paul Simpsons own ration book from the Second World War.
F.7 Thomas Bassett Reid, University of Aberdeen Faculty of Medicine. 43 items. Items include several dozen lecture tickets for admission to classes at the Faculty of Medicine as well as a number of affidavits and certificates of class attendance.
F.8 James Walker Simpsons pocket diaries. 2 items. Diaries record Simpsons private thoughts and remembrances of his life
F.9 Selected transcriptions of correspondence and other documents in the collection. 29 items. These include several transcriptions of letters whose originals have not survived, including a number of letters from members of the family serving in the Second World War.
Box 2 Oversize [Map Cabinet 72 or a box]
14 items. These include a very large parchment indenture dating to 1812, Alexander Reids medical diplomas, Anne Reids certification as a schoolteacher, several deeds to cemetery plots in Hamilton and Montreal, and James W. Simpsons last will and testament.
