F.1 Two pages, autographed letter signed John Cowper Powys. Dated 15th February, 1935, from 38 High East Street, Dorchester, Dorset, England, to a Mr. Adams. A reply, saying he values Mr. Adams’s letter and that it was an encouragement in his work.
F.2 One page, typed letter from W.F. Parrish of Macdonald & Co. (Publishers) Ltd., dated 19th July, 1954, to Malcolm Elwin. Mentions John Cowper Powys in regard to Atlantis, published in 1954.
F.3 Four pages, autographed letter signed J.C. Powys. Dated 29th September, 1955, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales, to Oliver Holt. A reply to Oliver Holt concerning the death of Littleton Powys who died 27th September, 1955. JCP thanks him profusely and reminisces about Littleton Powys and Oliver Holt.
F.4 Four pages, autographed letter signed J.C. Powys. Dated 6th October, 1955, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales. A reply to Oliver Holt, who had sent him a memoir of his years at Sherborne School, which, according to the Foreword of Three Sherborne Memoirs by Oliver Holt, published in 1987, was written in 1952. The memoir evidently mentions Nowell Smith who was headmaster of the Senior School and Littleton Powys who was headmaster of the Preparatory School. The letter reminisces and comments on the memoirs.
F.5 Four pages, autographed letter signed Old Powys Ma. Dated 2nd November, 1955, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales. To Oliver Holt, saying how thrilled he was with the piece Holt had written for the Western Gazette on Littleton Powys and encouraging him to offer the piece to other newspapers. Two folds, 6 ½” x 8", handwritten in ink and his usual scrawl with bits written around the edges.
F.6 Four pages, autographed letter signed J.C. Powys. Dated 19th December, 1955, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales. A reply to Oliver Holt, about a description of a Swiss holiday, possibly with Littleton Powys. JCP writes about identifying flowers and states that he cannot go out collecting them any more. Two folds 6 1/2" x 8", handwritten in ink in large scrawl.
F.7 Two pages, autographed letter signed J.C. Powys. Dated 17th September, 1956, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales. Written to Oliver Holt, asking him if he wrote an obituary on Littleton Powys in the Old Sherbornian and saying that Phyllis Playter had just finished proof-reading Littleton’s Still the joy of it. Two folds 6 1/2" x 8", handwritten in ink with writing around the edges.
F.8 Four pages, autographed letter signed J.C. Powys. Dated 22nd September, 1956, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales. Written to Oliver Holt, saying how delighted he was to learn that his articles had appeared in a periodical which circulated only amid Heals or Preps. There are some reminiscences about staying with Littleton when he returned from America in 1934. He mentions that he and Phyllis Playter had finished proof-reading Brazen Head which, with Still the joy of it would be published in October. Two folds 6 1/2" x 8", handwritten in ink, in JCP’s typical style.
F.9 Four pages, autographed letter signed J.C. Powys. Dated 20th December, 1956, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales. Thanks Oliver Holt for his card, mentions Brazen Head and Roger Bacon. Two folds 6 1/2" x 8", handwritten in ink in large scrawl.
F.10 Four pages, autographed letter signed J.C. Powys. Dated 6th January, 1957, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales. Comments on Oliver Holt’s brochure on Nowell Smith, who was headmaster of Sherborne senior school. Two folds, 6 1/2" x 8", handwritten in ink in large scrawl. Includes envelope.
F.11 Two pages, autographed letter signed J.C. Powys. Dated 22nd September, 1958, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales. Written to Oliver Holt about his son starting his second year at Sherborne and the Holts moving to their new home at Shepton Motagne, Wincanton, Somerset. Two folds, 6 ½" x 8", handwritten in ink. Includes envelope.
F.12 Two pages, autographed letter signed J.C. Powys. Dated 26th February, 1959, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales. Thanks Oliver Holt for his letter. JCP expresses his excitement that Macdonald will be publishing Homer and the Aether on the 27th February and explains that the Aether is a goddess he invented who can read people’s thoughts and desires. He mentions that a poet has continued the Odyssey. This is probably The Odyssey a modern sequel by Nikos Kazantzakis, published in England by Secker and Warburg in 1959. Two folds, 6 ½" x 8", handwritten in ink, pages completely filled with small handwriting.
F.13 Two pages, autographed letter signed John Cowper Powys. Dated 27th December, 1959, from 1 Waterloo, Blenau-Ffestiniog, Merioneth, N. Wales. Thanks Oliver Holt for his affectionate words, probably on a Christmas card. JCP reminisces about the Vicarage at Montacute. Two folds, 6 ½" x 8", handwritten in ink

F.1 Two typescripts, one signed by Llewelyn Powys; “Memoirs” crossed out by L.P. then hand-written “Memories”. This typescript of 22 pages, titled Memories of Thomas Hardy, signed on the front page “by Llewelyn Powys, Clavadel, Davas Platz, Switzerland”. This typescript has a short note attached, from Alyse Gregory to Kenneth Hopkins, explaining that passages were left out in the published article in The Virginia Quarterly. There are emendations by Alyse Gregory and possibly by Kenneth Hopkins. The article was published in full in Llewelyn Powys: a selection from his writing, compiled by Kenneth Hopkins, pp. 195-207, in 1952.
F.2 Ts. entitled “Recollections of Thomas Hardy” and appears to be a draft for the published “Memories” with pencilled corrections. [Written in 1937?]
F.3 A letter from Dr. Peter Foss, offering his comments on the typescripts.

F.5 One page, six-line, autographed letter signed Llewelyn Powys. Dated 4th November, 1929, from White Nose, Warmwell, Dorset, to Mr. Conklin (writing from the U.S.), granting permission to include “Not Guilty” from Ebony and ivory in an anthology. Two folds, 7" x 9", handwritten in ink.
F.6 One page, fourteen-line, autographed letter signed Llewelyn Powys. Not dated, from Chydyok, Chaldon Herring, Dorchester, Dorset, to Mr. Conklin (from the U.S.) about the republication of “Not Guilty” in an anthology. One fold, 4½” x 7", handwritten in ink; some pencil notes, presumably by Mr. Conklin. Llewelyn Powys moved to Chydyok in November of 1931 and “Not Guilty” was published in A smart set anthology, 1934, pp. 718-721, compiled by Burton Rascoe and Groff Conklin. Letter was probably written in 1932 or 1933.
F.7 One page, eight-line, autographed letter signed Llewelyn Powys. Dated 12th October, 193? (last figure difficult to read), from Chydyok, Chaldon Herring, Dorchester, Dorset, to a Mr. Robb, providing information about obtaining a copy of one of Powys’s books. One fold, 4 ½” x 7", handwritten in ink, includes an envelope. The envelope is addressed to Mr. Elias D. Robb, 717, First National Bank Buildings, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. The postmark seems to read 18th April, 1932. A six-month lapse, or the wrong envelope?

The contents included two poems by John Cowper Powys, The Ailanthus and The Ridge. The articles on J.C.P. are by Angus Wilson, Henry Miller, J.B. Priestley, Dominique Aury, Iowerth C. Peate and G. Wilson Knight. There are articles on T.F. Powys and Llewelyn Powys by Kenneth Hopkins and R.C. Churchill.
