FINANCES These files kept by Jack McClelland reveal his constant efforts to ensure the financial stability of McClelland and Stewart. The material dates from 1965 to the sale of the company to Avie Bennett in 1985. There is a great deal of material on the involvement of Woods Gordon in advising McClelland and his staff, along with dealings with the Ontario Development Corporation, the Royal Bank, and the creation of M&S Publishing Investments Lt. Roloff Beny Estate
As well as being his long-time publisher, J.G.M. was a friend and admirer of the eccentric artist. Following Beny's death in March 1984, J.G.M., Beny's literary executor, agreed to become a member of a trust fund, the Roloff Beny Foundation, set up to assist artists. The extent of McClelland's committment to this project is demonstrated by the copious files which follow.
