Series 1

Academic Research and Teaching. – 1975-1987, 2018. – 30 cm of textual records, 27 cassette tapes, 1 photograph

Series contains records pertaining to Echlin’s academic research and teaching, predominantly during and directly following the completion of her Ph.D. in English at York University (1982). Echlin’s research focused on the translation of Ojibway narratives about Nanabush; she studied with Basil Johnston, a prominent Anishinaabe author and ethnologist. From 1984-1985, Echlin taught English literature to a group of English language professors at the Dalian Institute of Technology in northeast China. A key focus of her lessons during this time was the myth structure underpinning Western literature.

Files have been arranged in rough chronological order. Records within files are maintained in received order.

Records related to Basil Johnston’s Ojibway language course may be found in the Basil H. Johnston fonds.
