The base maps are a composite of portions of at least 4 maps (Hazebrouck, Ostend, Dunkerque, Tournai, Ghent) from the France & Belgium 1:100,000 series. Both maps exhibit hand-applied colour schemes indicating water quality and quantity in a geographic area stretching from the English Channel in the northwest to Courtrai in the southeast and from Armentieres in the southwest to Ghent in the northeast.

It uses sheet 5A, Hazebrouck, edition 2, from the France & Belgium 1:100,000 series for the base topographic information. This information is shown in monochrome except water features which are in blue. The map is missing an 18cm wide strip down the left edge. Sanitary Section, up to May 1917 is written in blue pencil on the verso.

The base map is a composite of portions of at least 6 monochrome topographic maps with the standard WWI military grid. Water features are shown in blue. The map covers a geographic area from Bergues in the northwest to Haubourdin in the southeast and Merville in the southwest to Langemarck in the northeast. TO BE BOUND. History of War. For Sir W. [Horrocks?] is annotated in red pencil on the verso. The margins have been removed and no scale is given.

The base map is compiled from 6 joined topographic sheets on heavyweight paper. The margins have been removed and no scale is given. The map covers a geographic area from Herzeele in the northwest to Armentieres in the southeast and from Merville in the southwest to Ypres in the northeast. One map section was printed by the 2nd Field Survey Company (F.S.Co.) 56 on 21.7.17 and another map section by 2nd F.S.Co. 60 on 23.7.17. The map is oversize with dimensions of approx. 165 cm x 158 cm.
