Finding Aid
Series 1
Writing. 1954-2001 -- 2.43 m of textual records, 27 photographs, 72 col. negatives, and 1 audio cassette. Title based on content of series.
Series consists of Brandis manuscripts, research materials, and planning notes for her writing. The series has been arranged into sub-series according to type of work; the sub-series are published books, unpublished books, and short works. Within each sub-series except for short stories, the material has been arranged alphabetically by title of the work; for short stories, the titles have been arranged chronologically.
Original order was maintained in most cases because Brandis organized and labelled research notes for each project. All file titles are the original titles used unless noted by square brackets. Additional clarification or notes have been added. For each works writing materials, manuscripts are often, but not always, included. The series also includes some correspondence and travel materials relating to her writing.
Many of Marianne Brandis notes refer to Ger, who is her brother Gerard Brender à Brandis, the wood engraver and bookwright. They have collaborated on a number of published works. Brandis also refers to E or P who is Ernest Harrison. P is the initial of the nickname he used. Ernest (or Ernie) and Anis Harrison often aided Brandis in her research and writing.

Full Belly Project and Thinking Big, Building Small (2011)
Brandis’ Thinking Big, Building Small was written to highlight the work done by her younger brother, Jock Brandis, and his organization, the Full Belly Project (FBP), which worked to provide agricultural implements and advancements to countries in Africa. The book focuses both on Jock Brandis’ earlier and later humanitarian work, and the recognition he has received.
This sub-series contains drafts, research notes, correspondence, photographs, and other materials pertaining to the planning, writing, publication, and publicity of this book.
