Guidelines
We will provide approved McMaster researchers (graduate students, post docs and faculty) with free copies of items from our collections, within the following guidelines.
- Submit a request to your ADR and it will be forwarded to the University Librarian. (To protect reader privacy, once the person is approved to use the service, all specific requests will be made directly with Archives and Research Collections.)
- Once approved, materials must be requested using the copy request form Staff will be available for research consultations to assist in identifying material via mail.
- The requestor must be able to clearly identify the specific material they need from the collection
- For archives: title of the archive, box, and file number/title
- For books: title, author, publication date, and call number (link to the catalogue entry can be substituted for these) and requested page numbers)
- The requestor must be able to clearly identify the specific material they need from the collection
- Some material may not be able to be copied, given its physical condition or format
- Initially, each copy request will be limited to 50 pages (pdfs) or 5 high resolution scans. Researchers will be limited to 2 requests in a 4-week period.
- Copies will be delivered via email using Dropbox or another file sharing program.
- Turn-around time will depend on the number of requests received, but it is expected orders will be completed within two weeks of submission.
Help Identifying Material
All of the print material in our collection is available in the catalogue. Use the advanced search or facet at the left side to specify 'Archives and Research Collections' or 'Bertrand Russell Archives' to narrow to our holdings.
Archival material is identified in our descriptive database, which includes links to detailed finding aids with box listings.
Staff will be available for research consultations to assist in identifying material via email.
