St. Thomas' Anglican Church (St. Catharines, Ont.) fonds. -- 1873-1996. -- 63 cm of textual records.
The first meeting of the building committee of a proposed new church on Ontario Street was held on 15 March 1877. The committee was made up of members of the congregation of the existing Christ Church, St. Catharines, which had opened in 1873. Because of financial difficulties, construction of St. Thomas' was delayed, and the church did not open for services until October 1879. For a more complete history see Peter B. The fonds consists parish registers containing statistical records, services, Vestry minutes, and financial registers. The fonds has been microfilmed on 7 reels, numbered 82-85, 114-115, 363.
Title based on content of fonds.
Fonds on deposit. Ownership of the fonds resides with St. Thomas' Church.
Finding aid available in hard copy and electronically.
Researchers are requested to use the microfilms. They must also sign an agreement of use form.
Further accruals are expected.
NOTE: St. Thomas' was founded as an offshoot of Christ Church which was in turn, built as a daughter church of St. George's, St. Catharines' first Anglican church. The building of St. Thomas' commenced in the fall of 1877, the first service being celebrated there in October 1879.
