St. Stephen-on-the-Mount Anglican Church

The Church of St. Stephen-On-The-Mount (Hamilton, Ont.) fonds. -- 1907-2004. -- 41 cm of textual records.

St. Stephen-On-The-Mount began as a daughter church of Hamilton's Holy Trinity parish. Seasonal open air services were held at the George Summers Theatre, located at the top of the Wentworth Street incline. Services were also held at the Mission Hall on Concession Street. In 1907, the wooden church structure of St. Stephen's in Strabane, Ontario was acquired and moved to the new St. Stephen-On-The-Mount parish home on Concession Street. The first rector was Cannon John Samuel. That structure served the parish until 1958 when work on the present struture was completed. It was dedicated by Bishop Walter Bagnall in 1959. A new parish hall was built and opened in 2000.

The fonds consists of parish records, including records of baptisms, confirmations, marriages and burials as well as Vestry/Service books and general records. The fonds has been microfilmed on 4 reels, numbered 378, 379, 380 and 397.
