St. Luke's Anglican Church (Hamilton, Ont.) fonds. -- 1882-2017. -- 40cm of textual records.
Residents of the North End of Hamilton found it difficult to travel to Christ's Church Cathedral. A wooden building once used as a Methodist Episcopal Church was purchased and moved to the corner of John Street North and Macauley Street. The first service was held on 9 July 1882. During the tenure of the second Bishop of Niagara, a larger and more permanent church was built.
The fonds consists of parish registers containing statistical records, services, Women's Auxiliary minutes, financial records and a Sunday school register. The fonds has been microfilmed on 3 reels, numbered 288-290.

Historical Notes
As early as 1881 a group of laymen from the North End of Hamilton, who had to trek over bumpy and sometimes bog-filled roads to reach Christ's Church Cathedral for Sunday worship, asked the Vicar there, the Reverend Dr. C.H. Mockridge, if he would take steps to found a new parish for them. A fund was quickly raised at the Cathedral. A wooden building once used as a Methodist Episcopal Church was purchased and moved to the present site at the corner of John and Macauley Streets.
The first services were held on July 9, 1882 with Dr. Mockridge preaching, assisted in the service by the Reverend F.E. Howitt who was then in charge. St. Luke's remained closely associated with the Cathedral. In March of 1883 the Reverend William Massey, former Rector of Harriston and Clifford, was appointed Priest-in-Charge. The mission soon became self-supporting and was constituted a parish. Bishop Fuller appointed Mr. Massey as first Rector at the congregation's request.
The Right Reverend William Hamilton, second Bishop of Niagara, suggested the need for a larger and more permanent building for a church during one of his first visits to the parish. With his help and guidance the present beautiful church was built.
During the Rectorship of Canon Robert Ferguson (1916-1922) the parish hall was built. Ravaged by fire in Jan. 1970, but restored and updated, St. Luke's Parish Hall is also a centre for social and other activities in the North End.
St. Gabriel's was also worshipping at St. Luke's for a time before moving to St. Michael's on Fennell, but was closed in 2019, lacking a Spanish speaking minister.
St. Luke's was disestablished in 18 October 2017.
