Responsible Research Assessment (Research Practice Exchange)

Are you planning for the new Tri-Agency narrative CV or considering how to tackle your tenure application?  As research outputs diversify and expectations for research impact evolve, traditional indicators like the journal impact factor and h-index are being de-emphasized in favour of approaches that connect your research contributions to their intended outputs, outcomes, and impacts more explicitly.     

Join us on September 24 from 11 AM - 12 PM for our first Research Practice Exchange of the year on responsible research assessment! We'll explore what meaningful research assessment and impact expression looks like beyond traditional metrics.

This session will begin with a brief introduction to the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), which McMaster recently signed, before digging into the implications of this endorsement for researchers.  We’ll discuss how researchers can best measure and represent the impact of their work and explore how incorporating a wide range of outputs and indicators can lead to more compelling impact narratives. 

We'll be joined by Dr. Sukvinder Obhi whose leadership was instrumental in McMaster signing on to DORA during his tenure as Associate Vice-President, Research (Society & Impact), Dr. Ine Wauben, Executive Director (Strategic Initiatives) for both the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) and McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA) (both recent DORA signatories), and Audrey Patocs who, in her role as MIRA’s Research Manager, has worked to practically incorporate DORA principles into the research institute’s reporting workflows.
