The Department of Communication Studies and Media Arts, in collaboration with the Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship, invites you to a public talk featuring the latest book by Dilyana Mincheva, Adversarial Islamic Feminism: Islam and Feminism in the Western-Islamic Public Sphere. Dr. Mincheva, an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies and Media Arts at McMaster University, will introduce her research on the intersections of Islam and feminisms. Mincheva’s work delves into the dynamic and often contentious realm of mediated feminist activism among Muslim women, positioned in diasporic and Muslim majority spaces, examining how their voices challenge and reshape the intersections of Islam and feminism. Mincheva describes a vibrant and fluid “borderland” where Western and Islamic feminist perspectives intersect, forging new ways to think about identity, faith, and activism.
