St. Barnabas' Anglican Church
St. Barnabas' Anglican Church (St. Catharines, Ont.) fonds. -- 1879-1968. -- 25 cm of textual records.
St. Barnabas' church was founded as a mission church of St. George's in 1870. A small frame church was erected on John Street in 1873. In 1879 it separated from St. George's and became a parish on its own. In 1891 the church building was moved from John Street to Queenston Street. In June 1893 construction began on a new red sandstone church. For a more complete history see E.H. Lancaster, History from 1870-1968 of St. Barnabas's Church.
The fonds consists of parish registers containing statistical records, Vestry records, and services. The fonds has been microfilmed on 4 reels, numbered 95-96, 111, 134.

Historical Notes
The Church of St. Barnabas was established as a mission of St. George's Anglican Church in St. Catharines in 1870. A small frame Church was erected on John Street in 1873 and the new Parish of St. Barnabas' was created in 1879. Enlargement and moving of the Church seems to have been first suggested in 1888 but no action was taken at that time. The cornerstone of the new red sandstone church was laid in June 1893. For financial reasons the tower, proposed in the original architectural plans, was omitted from the finished building. The cornerstone of the new parish hall was laid in September 1957.
Note: For a fuller account of the historical background of St. Barnabas' see the history of the church by E.H. Lancaster (in the filing cabinet), and the account in the Anglican Church Histories.
