Make room in your closet, give your professional clothing a second life and help McMaster students look and feel their best.
Students in Sustain 3S0S are collecting donations until this Nov. 21, for the Well-Suited Community Closet — a student-led initiative that will be housed in Thode Library.
The community closet will allow students to borrow professional attire for important academic and career moments, free of charge.
“The Well-Suited Community Closet provides an opportunity for the entire McMaster community to help close the equity gap in career readiness,” said Denya Medeiros, part of the Sustain 3S03 student team.
“We aim to reduce economic barriers and create an inclusive space that supports McMaster students in achieving their academic and professional goals.”
By donating, you’re not only supporting student success, you’re also helping reduce textile waste and promote a more sustainable campus.
“The fashion industry is a major contributor to global environmental issues,” explained Sustain 3S03 student team member Lena Lagenreither.
“Giving clothing a second life through initiatives like the Well-Suited Community Closet helps cut down on waste. Around 92 million tons of textile waste end up in landfills each year. This project reduces that footprint while supporting students.”
The Well-Suited Community Closet is accepting donations until Nov. 21 in Mills Memorial Library and the H.G Thode Library of Science and Engineering. The following items can be left in donation bins:
- Suits, blazers, dress shirts and blouses
- Dress pants, skirts and dresses
- Dress shoes, ties and belts
- Spare hangers (including dry cleaner hangers)
- Garment racks
