Bibliometric analysis is a powerful research method that uses publication and citation data to examine the impact, structure, and evolution of scholarly literature. This introductory workshop provides a practical foundation in bibliometric analysis, covering the key concepts, methodologies, and tools used to assess research performance and explore trends within academic disciplines. Participants will learn how to collect and analyze publication data, identify influential authors and publications, and visualize research collaborations and emerging areas of scholarship. The workshop will also introduce major bibliographic databases and software tools commonly used in bibliometric research.
This session is ideal for researchers, graduate students, librarians, research administrators, and anyone interested in research evaluation, scholarly communication, and understanding patterns within academic literature.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the principles and applications of bibliometric analysis.
- Identify and interpret common bibliometric indicators used in research evaluation.
- Collect publication and citation data from major bibliographic databases.
- Perform basic bibliometric analyses and interpret the results.
- Explore scholarly networks, research collaborations, and emerging research topics using bibliometric tools and visualizations.
