Integrated Criminal Court Survey: Interactive Dashboard on Annual Key Indicators

This product is based on data from the adult and youth components of the Integrated Criminal Court Survey (ICCS). The ICCS is administered by the Canadian Centre for Justice and Community Safety Statistics (Statistics Canada) in collaboration with provincial and territorial government departments responsible for criminal courts in Canada. The survey collects statistical information on adult and youth court cases involving Criminal Code and other federal statute offences. Data presented for adult criminal courts represent individuals who were 18 years of age or older at the time of the offence. Data presented for youth courts represent individuals who were aged 12 to 17 years at the time of the offence.

Absolute change refers to the simple difference in the indicator over two periods of time (new - old). Relative change (percentage change) refers to the change as a percentage of the value of the indicator in the earlier period (((new − old) ÷old;) ×100). It is advised to use measures of relative change when working with larger datasets and quantities in order to provide a more precise description of how the data has changed over a period of time. However, when working with smaller datasets and sample sizes, the use of measures of absolute change is recommended in order to avoid overstating changes within a period of time.
