(Nov 11/10) Get the smokers away from the doors. The chamber by the entrance gets very polluted with smoke.

Brilliant Response! Dont you realize there is already a sign that says they shouldnt be smoking near the doors. People sometimes smoke while leaning on this sign! The wall by the entrance literally looks like it was scorched by a fire from all the ashes left behind. Id also like to bring to your attention that cigarette buds have started making their way into the library lobby. One more week then Im appealing to the president. (2010-12-02)
RESPONSE TO COMMENT: Obviously the signage is inadequate since you are right, I overlooked it. I had intended to make signage more clear, but have been advised that the campus Facilities department is responsible for all signs on buildings. However, I have been discussing possible solutions to the problem with Library Facilities, and we will try to make the fact that there is no smoking within 9 metres of the building more obvious. In addition, I will speak to all Thode staff and ask that they monitor the distance of smokers from the building. Staff will advise people who are smoking close to the doors that they must move away from the building. You may also notice that custodial services have cleared away the cigarette butts from in front of the doors. I hope that these measures will help with the problem. Please feel free to let library staff know if you find that smokers are in violation of the 9 metre distance and we will do whatever we can to ensure that the area immediately outside of the building remains smoke-free.
