World War, 1939-1945

Poster collection. – 1936-1945; predominant 1939-1945. – 213 items.

This collection contains posters issued by Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The posters have been numbered sequentially with prefixes of A, C, B, and U. Facsimiles and duplicates are noted in the finding aid. Subject matter varies: recruitment, Victory Bonds, activities on the Home Front to aid and protect the troops, gas attacks and bombs, ARP. Although this is mainly a collection of posters, there is one photograph (C24) and one calendar (C21).

Title based on content of collection.
Collection was acquired from Morris Norman (05-2004) and from Alexander Books (22-1998: U8), (25-1999: U9) (11-2002: C7 and B11), (24-2002: 51 posters). In addition, all the Australian posters, posters B34-64, C51-54 and U9-12, were acquired sometime in the 1970s. Numbers C55 and C56 (54-2008) and C58 and C59 (30-2008) were acquired from Morris Norman in April and May 2008. Number C57 (31-2008) was acquired from George Flie in June 2008. Numbers C61-C66 and U15 (50-2008) were acquired from Morris Norman in late 2008. Numbers C60, B66, U12, U13 (22-2009) were acquired from Alexander Books in May 2009. Numbers U16-U19 (08-2010) were acquired from Lorne Shields in March 2009. Number B67 (14-2010) was acquired from John Rush Books in March 2010. Numbers C67-C69 (11-2010) as well as 31 Imperial Tobacco posters (not numbered) were acquired from Morris Norman in 2011.
