Waisglass, Harry J.

Harry J. Waisglass fonds. -- 1928-2001. -- 4 m of textual records and other material.

Harry J. Waisglass retired as Director of McMaster University's Labour Studies Programme in 1981. Before coming to McMaster in 1975 he had worked as a researcher for the United Steelworkers of America, the Amalgamated Clothing Workers and other labour organizations. He also held the position of Director-General of Research and Information at the Canadian Department of Labour for some years.

The fonds consists of five accruals. The first accrual measures 1.35 m, and consists of photographs, minutes, reports, memoranda, notes, and correspondence relating to Waisglass's various positions. The second accrual (20-1990) measures .45 m, and consists of addresses, articles, and notes by Waisglass in original and printed form, files of correspondence and notes on some of the positions held by Waisglass. The third accrual (30-1996) measures 1.75 m, and consists of arbitration files, a research manual co-edited by Waisglass, and video and audio cassettes of interviews conducted by Waisglass with several labour leaders. The fourth accrual (33-1997) measures 33 cm, and consists primarily of arbitration and grievance files. The fifth accrual (15-2001) consists of correspondence, letters to the editor, lecture notes, articles, thesis, and biographical information.

The first accrual was acquired in June 1981 from Harry J. Waisglass; the second accrual was acquired in September 1990; the third accrual was acquired in 1996; the fourth accrual was acquired in September 1997; the fifth accrual in June 2001.

There are some access restrictions: Box 1, File 13 was closed for 25 years from date of acquisiton. That access restriction has expired. Box 11b is closed.
Further accruals are expected.
