Prendergast, D'Arcy

D'Arcy Prendergast fonds. -- 1916-1918. -- 6.5 cm of textual records and graphic material.

In March 1915, at the age of nineteen, during his third year in pre-med-sciences at the University of Toronto, D'Arcy Jerome Prendergast was recruited into the 25th Battery of the Canadian Field Artillery. He served in the trenches for several months, and in the spring of 1916 he returned to England where he received a commission as a second lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery. In 1917 Prendergast was a balloon observer attached to the Royal Flying Corps, 5th Kite Balloon Section. Later in the war, he commanded the 18th Balloon Company, sections no. 1 and 31.

There have been two accruals. The first accrual (20-1996) consists of correspondence, photographs, and military documents. The second accrual (43-1997) consists of trench and other maps, photographs, and military documents.

Title based on the contents of the fonds.
The first accrual was received in July 1996; the second accrual in December 1997, both of which were donated by Mrs. Helen Gariepy, Prendergast's daughter.

There are no access restrictions.
No further accruals are expected.
