Magee, Russell Kneale
Russell Kneale Magee collection. 1942-1946. 6.5 cm of
textual records.
Russell Magee was born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1906. He graduated from
the University of Toronto in 1930 with a degree in medicine, followed
by training in surgery. In 1942 he joined the Canadian Army Medical
Corps. He served overseas in Europe until 1946. His wife, Agnes King
Moffat, was also a medical doctor. Dr. Magee died in November 1972.
The collection consists of letters written by Magee to Charles and Marion
Shaw, 1944-1946. The Shaws were the owners of the North American Leather
Company in Omemee, Ontario There are also letters (typed carbons) from
Magee to Dr. Ody and Colonel Harris which may have been enclosed in
letters to the Shaws; one letter (a typed carbon) from Shaw to Magee;
a draft of an unsigned letter to Sherwood Lett about Magee; and a mimeographed
report Visit to Berlin, unsigned but by Magee.
The Russell Kneale Magee fonds is housed at the Peterborough Centennial
Museum and Archives.
Title based on the creator of the collection.
The collection (49-2007) was purchased in December 2007 from M. Benjamin
Katz Books.
