The Outrageous Apostle: A Play Based on a Novel, Hadrian The Seventh, by Fr. Rolfe (Baron Corvo) / by Peter Luke. -- 8 December 1961. -- Typescript with holograph emendations, 134 p. -- Commissioned by the Hampstead Theatre Club. -- Luke has written on the title page: "This is the 1st draft of the play known as Hadrian the Seventh." His note is dated 9 August 1971. There is a second title page, almost identical to the first, dated 6 February 1962. Peter Luke, playwright, director and producer, was born 12 August 1919 in St. Albans, Herfordshire. He was educated at Eaton College and Byam Shaw School of Art. He was editor of Bookman, 1962-1963, producer of the arts program Tempo, 1963-1964, and a BBC drama producer from 1963-1967. His play about Hadrian VII was produced in London in 1968 and in New York in 1969. It was published as The Play of Hadrian VII: Based on Hadrian the Seventh and Other Works by Frederick Rolfe in 1968. Luke died on 23 January 1995 in Cadiz. The item was purchased from Bertram Rota in March 1980.
