Open Access Week 2021

International Open Access Week, October 25-31, 2021, a global event now in its fourteenth year, is a time for open access advocates to engage with the wider community about the potential benefits of open access towards the free sharing of information and learning resources. This year's theme, It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity, puts equity at the centre of this work.

Open Access Week is an opportunity to engage in conversations and create connections across disciplines to help build more equitable foundations for opening knowledge.

The Schedule of Events is designed to share what we have learned with colleagues in the hopes of inspiring wider participation to help make openness the default in scholarship and research practices. As the foundation of Open Education, Open Educational Resources (OER) play an important role in this year's events.

  • Attend the OER Showcase and OER Lightning Round to hear from the McMaster OER Grant recipients for 2020-21 and 2021-22; learn about their adaptation and creation projects.
  • Learn how to use Hypothes.is with your course readings in Avenue to Learn and how to create interactive content with H5P.
  • End the week by playing a fun game of OER Bingo.*

Everyone is welcome to attend!

The official twitter hashtag for the week is #OAWeek
