Black Moss Press. – 1967-2013. – 57 cm textual records; 33 photographs: b&w and col.
Series consists of material related to Black Moss Press (BMP). Title of series is from the contents of the material. Series is arranged chronologically. File titles generally include author’s name and title of publication. Some files contained Social Insurance Numbers. The processing archivist has created redacted photocopies of records containing SIN numbers and maintained these in their original files; original records containing SIN numbers have been removed from their originating files and grouped in Box 73, File 13, which is embargoed until 2050.
Gervais founded Black Moss Press as a literary journal for poetry in 1969. It continued as a literary journal until the mid-1970s. The first part of the series consists of early Black Moss Press materials which were submitted to Gervais with the intentions of being published in the literary journals or as small chapbooks. This material includes typescripts of poems, correspondence, and page proofs. Some material has been treated for mold during processing. Material treated for mold contains a note within the folder indicating treatment has taken place.
Starting in 1976, the material consists of submissions for or regarding book-length publications. Records include contracts, correspondence, manuscripts, typescripts, page proofs, author photographs, interviews, and author biographical information. Some correspondence on thermal fax paper has been removed because of illegibility due to fading.
