Holy Trinity Anglican Church (Hamilton, Ont.) fonds. -- 1885-2003. -- 55 cm of textual records.
The congregation of St. Peter's Church, Barton, recognized the need for a new church on the macadamised road which ran south from Hamilton, Ont. It was decided to build Holy Trinity at the corner of Upper James Street and Fennell Avenue. Construction began in 1877 and the new church was opened on 6 January 1878. Sod was turned for a second church on 2 October 1955 with the first services being held on 20 September 1956. In the early years Holy Trinity was linked to St. Peter's.
The fonds consists of parish registers containing statistical records, services, Vestry, Executive and other Committee meetings minutes, and financial registers. The fonds has been microfilmed on 5 reels, numbered 74-77, 86. Researchers should also consult the St. Peter's Church (Barton, Ont.) fonds.
Title based on content of fonds.
Fonds on deposit. Ownership of the fonds resides with Holy Trinity Church.
Finding aid available in hard copy and electronically.
Researchers are requested to use the microfilms. They must also sign an agreement of use form.
Further accruals are expected.
Note: This Church, first known as Holy Trinity, Barton, replaced St. Peter's, Barton. The researcher in the period prior to the 1880s is directed to the records of St. Peter's and those of St. George's, Hannon. The latter was built as an offshoot of St. Peter's in 1864.
