In the interest of saving your time, we can scan a journal article from one of our print-only journals, or a single chapter from one of our print books, and send it to you by email as a PDF.

Instructions

  1. Perform a search in the Library Catalogue
  2. On the item page for the print book you want a scan from, look for the scan one chapter button button. See below for an example on the item page. scan one chapter button on the item page of a book
  3. When you click   you will be taken to a form that has been pre-populated with key information about the journal.
  4. Fill out the chapter title, your name, email address (McMaster or personal), barcode, and McMaster affiliation. A confirmation of your request will be sent to the email you provided.
  5. You will receive an email with a link to a PDF with the scanned chapter within 48 hours at the email address you provided. The link allows for 5 downloads and expires after 30 days.

Email us at jnlscan@mcmaster.ca if you need a rush on your scan request, or have any issue with your scans. We are happy to help.

Scan requests may be denied for the following reasons:

1.  You are not a currently registered McMaster faculty, staff or student.
2.  You requested a journal article that is available online.  We only process requests from print-only journal articles.
3.  You requested more than one article from a journal issue - according to Canadian copyright law we are only able to send you one article from a journal issue or more than one article if the total number of pages does not exceed 10% of the issue.
4. You requested more than one chapter from a book - according to Canadian copyright law, we can only scan one chapter from a book that is not exceeding 10% of the work.

Participating libraries include Mills, Innis and Thode, but exclude Archives & Special Collections and the Lloyd Reeds Map Collection.

We are unable to scan and send microform, microfiche or microcard at this time.
