(Dec 5/11) Why do our libraries look so old and broke? I think that a school like McMaster can put a little bit more effort and money into the designs of our libraries. Mills looks and feels like a prison while Thode has bloody lawn-chairs on the second floor... And it almost has no windows! Whats up with that? Were getting outdoor furniture to sit on and party tables... Have you seen the libraries at other universities around Ontario. I live in Mississauga and study at the UTM library quite often, which is absolutely beautiful and exquisite. I dont see why we cant completely renovate our libraries. Its a little bit depressing to study at Thode and Mills.

Library response: Thanks for your comment, and we agree with your comments that the 2nd floor of Thode is looking a little casual. There was a blip with the furniture order, which has delayed delivery until the 1st week of January. New chairs, to replace the lovely plastic patio chairs, are arriving tomorrow, so you should have something comfy to sit in while studying. We will be painting this area over the holiday as well. Please be patient with us until after the holiday break. This space is going to look great when it is done. It will look much more in keeping with the first floor of Thode. When possible we try to renovate large areas of our buildings, but we are usually dependent on donations to fund these renovations, and as you can imagine we have no control over how money is donated at any given time. We need to finish the 1st floor of Thode, and the lower level, then we will be done there! Mills is of course bigger, and older, so it will take longer. We appreciate your patience as we work towards improving the study and collection spaces available to all of our users.
