This Canadian deprivation index was created using data from the 2006 census by dissemination area.

There are four versions of the index for the Canadian territory. They cover either Canada as a whole, each region of Canada, certain geographic areas or metropolitan areas. The different tabs allow you to explore each of the versions. Each tab presents a brief description of the version of the index, a map illustrating the distribution of deprivation at the desired level, and multiple tables of statistical data that distribute the Canadian population by age group and by sex for both material and social deprivation.

Each tab also allows users to get information common to all the levels of analysis. First, an equivalence table allows users to link the dissemination area, certain geographic areas and the deprivation indices. A program for SAS assignment is also available so users can merge the material and social deprivation index into administrative files or into their analyses, as long as the files have a 6-digit postal code variable. A municipal code is preferred but not mandatory. A user guide comes with this program. Finally, a series of publications associated with the deprivation index is available.

The HealthSTATS section of the health unit's website contains data and information for use by public health, hospitals, clinics, local governments, schools, other community agencies and the general public. In many cases, this information is used to help plan services to improve the health of our community.

HealthSTATS, provides information on the health of Simcoe Muskoka residents. HealthSTATS contains information on a variety of topics of public health importance and new content is added to the site on an ongoing basis. Availability of the data depends on the source of the information. In addition to the topic-based web pages, a number of Focus on HealthSTATS reports are available, which provide detailed information on specific health topics. Provincial data are used for comparative purposes where available and appropriate.

By opening its data to everyone, the City of Montreal allows it to be reused for different purposes, including commercial purposes. Between May and August 2011, Statistics Canada conducted the National Household Survey (NHS) for the first time. This voluntary, self-administered survey was introduced as a replacement for the long census questionnaire, more widely known as Census Form 2B.

The NHS is designed to collect social and economic data about the Canadian population. The objective of the NHS is to provide data for small geographic areas and small population groups.

The U.S. data in PRB's DataFinder are from the U.S. Census Bureau's decennial census, American Community Survey, and population estimates.

The international data in PRB's DataFinder are from several Population Reference Bureau data sheets. Additional international indicators were compiled by PRB staff, primarily using national surveys.

In 2016, the Québec government and the municipalities of Gatineau, Laval, Montreal, Quebec City, and Sherbrooke joined forces to create the new Data Québec open data portal.
