Passport is a global market research database providing statistics, analysis, reports, surveys and breaking news on industries, countries and consumers worldwide. 

The Library subscribes to the following modules in Passport:

  • Cities - Provides socioeconomic data and analysis on 850 of the world’s largest cities.  
  • Survey - Consists of online consumer survey data  from 16 countries covering consumer habits, attitudes, opinions, values, behaviours and motivations on a variety of topics.
  • Industrials (Canada) - Breaks down the Canadian economy into 177 different industry sectors from a B2B perspective. Data and analysis is provided for Agriculture, Forestry, Mining, Alcoholic Beverages and many other industries.

The World Bank has one of the largest repositories of microdata for development which is fully searchable and includes a citation index. The data include census and survey data on a range of development topics. It uses international norms for documenting microdata (DDI, Dublin Core). Currently, it covers 125 countries. Data for all studies listed are available to researchers either through direct download or a more detailed application process.

Useful features like Country Profiles, Advanced Search and Glossaries are also provided to aid research. International selection of economic, social and environmental indicators from the World Bank. Website includes over 35 databases providing data on a wide variety of subjects. Popular databases include:

  • World Development Indicators (WDI) and Global Development Finance (GDF): WDI is the primary World Bank database for development data from officially-recognized international sources. GDF provides external debt and financial flows statistics for countries that report public and publicly-guaranteed debt under the World Bank's Debtor Reporting System (DRS).
  • Gender Statistics: Provides data on key gender topics. Themes included are demographics, education, health, labor force, and political participatio

The World Values Survey (www.worldvaluessurvey.org) is a global network of social scientists studying changing values and their impact on social and political life, led by an international team of scholars, with the WVS association and secretariat headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.

The survey, which started in 1981, seeks to use the most rigorous, high-quality research designs in each country. The WVS consists of nationally representative surveys conducted in almost 100 countries which contain almost 90 percent of the world’s population, using a common questionnaire. The WVS is the largest non-commercial, cross-national, time series investigation of human beliefs and values ever executed, currently including interviews with almost 400,000 respondents. Moreover the WVS is the only academic study covering the full range of global variations, from very poor to very rich countries, in all of the world’s major cultural zones.
