Tours of Archives and Research Collections

We are pleased to offer tours of our Division to interested groups and individuals. Ever wondered what goes on behind the closed doors of the archives? Want to get a closer look at a medieval manuscript? Wonder what it would be like to hold a 500-year-old book in your hands? This is your chance!

Tours generally take about an hour and can accommodate individuals or groups of up to 12 people. One of our staff will show you through our secure collections areas – archival stacks, rare book shelves, and conservation lab – stopping along the way to emphasise selected items from the collection. Book a tour at least two weeks in advance to ensure availability; please note that requests from individuals or very small groups may be grouped together. Be sure to let us know if there are particular themes or items you would like us to focus on during the tour – you can get some ideas about what we collect here and here.

On occasion, special accommodations can be made for larger groups or those wishing to focus on specific collections or materials. Please get in touch for details.

Owing to time and resource constraints we reserve the right to refuse or cancel a booking, but every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate requests.
