Library Development Web Presence (Strategic Initiative)

Status Update December 2011

 

Project Objectives

  • Create an enhanced web presence for library development to engage current and future donors in the library; inform them about events; and encourage and facilitate donations.
  • Key attributes of the new web presence:  clear content, simple/quick to navigate, aligned with library and University Advancement priorities.

  •   Includes locally-hosted pages.  No changes to University Advancement pages.

Obstacles / Constraints (known constraints imposed by environment, management, etc.)

  •   Potential budget constraints (cost of hiring web designer)
  • May have difficulty getting  a good cross section of donors for focus groups and usability testing.

  • Run focus groups with donors to determine requirements (June 2011)
  • Identify key practices in advancement sites (both library and non-library contexts)  (July / August 2011)
  • Identify key stakeholders and messages.  What content do we hope to convey?  What key donor opportunities do we want to highlight?  What tasks do we wish potential donors to do while on the site? (Sept. 2011)
  • Prepare initial set of recommendations for review by the Leadership Group.  Include recommendations for resourcing the design work (Oct. 2011)
  • Create mockups for review by key stakeholders (Nov. 2011)
  • Design new pages (Dec. 2011)
  • Conduct usability testing on pages (ease of navigation, clarity of content, etc.) (Jan. 2012)
  • Launch new pages (Feb. 2012)
