Series consists of items of correspondence that appear to have been set aside by the Foundation because they were from prominent individuals, such as Muhammad Ali and Allen Ginsberg, or for some other unspecified purpose. Includes primarily original letters received and carbon copies of replies; most are addressed to Russell, and most replies are also from him.
Files have been arranged in alphabetical order by name of correspondent.

BRPF Legal Correspondence. – 1962-1968. – 3 cm of textual records
Series contains correspondence from Russell, Foundation employees, and various solicitors and estate agents regarding the leasing of flats at 28 Hasker Street and 3 Elystan Mansions. These flats were leased in Russell’s name on behalf of his secretaries. Additional correspondence pertains to Ralph Schoenman’s court summons for a lack of motor vehicle insurance in 1966, news articles in which the Foundation is portrayed inaccurately, and other matters.

Series contains files from various Foundation directors, including Russell Stetler, Ralph Schoenman, Ken Coates, Chris Farley, Pat Jordan, and others. Records attest to a diverse range of activities and include meeting minutes, memos, correspondence with political figures and other organizations with similar goals to the Foundation, research, and activism, particularly related to the Vietnam War.
The series includes records of Ralph Schoenman’s trip to North Vietnam, undertaken from February-March of 1966, in which Schoenman gathered evidence of American war crimes in support of U.S. draft resister David Mitchell, whose case the Foundation supported. Schoenman’s trip inspired the Foundation’s later and more ambitious plan of inquiry into U.S. war crimes in Vietnam, which would culminate in the first Russell International War Crimes Tribunal.

Series consists of typescript copies of letters from Foundation employees to various individuals approached to sponsor the Foundation’s work. The series also includes typescript copies of letters from Russell which acknowledge financial gifts to the Foundation. Additionally, some address lists and bills to the Foundation are included. The majority of files with letters to and from donors have been labelled “Angels”, possibly because without the financial support of these individuals, the Foundation would have been too short of funds to continue its work.
All “Angels” files originally resided in an accordion folder and have been maintained in their received order—that is, arranged alphabetically by last name of letter recipient. Throughout the first half of the 1970s, the Foundation took up the cause of deposed Cambodian Head of State Norodom Sihanouk, the resistance movement he founded (National United Front of Kampuchea, often abbreviated FUNK) and his government-in-exile (the Royal Government of the National Union of Kampuchea, often abbreviated GRUNK). During this period Sihanouk resided primarily in Beijing. The Foundation’s efforts on behalf of Sihanouk were numerous: in 1971 they organized a “May Day Appeal” for which advertisements were taken out in various newspapers and letters were sent to heads of state throughout the world. This year, a form letter campaign was also undertaken in which Foundation supporters were queried regarding their interest in a “world appeal” to support Sihanouk. As well, in 1973, the Foundation established the “Bertrand Russell International Committee on Cambodia,” whose aim was to raise support for GRUNK and Sihanouk.
Documentary forms include correspondence, form letters, signed appeals from Foundation supporters, transcripts of an interview with Sihanouk (1971), press cuttings, and grey literature from GRUNK and FUNK.

Series contains correspondence from Russell, Foundation staff, and various members and witnesses associated with the first Tribunal. The majority of records in the series were created in the early 1970s when Foundation staff sought IWCT members’ involvement in a Russell memorial meeting (1970) and a possible third session of the first Tribunal. Correspondence was sent to members of the first Tribunal regarding a third session in the spring of 1970; this session did not take place. Additional correspondence addresses other Russell Tribunals.
The processing archivist has maintained two sets of records in received order: the first set contains files from investigation team members; this set is arranged alphabetically by last name of correspondent. The second set, similarly, is arranged alphabetically by last name of correspondent.
