Learning Support
Academic Skills Counsellors and Peer Helpers from the Centre for Student Development are available in the Mills Learning Commons to help you with your learning and writing skills.
We offer:
- The Writing Clinic: an academic writing development service using Peer Helpers to help students with their academic writing skills. For more information on the writing clinic or to book an appointment, click here. Please remember that the Writing Clinic is not a proofreading service; it is designed to help students develop their writing and improve their writing process.
- Workshops: throughout the year, on various topics including Procrastination Avoidance, How to Ace Tests & Exams, and many more! See http://csd.mcmaster.ca/academic for current offerings.
- Online Workshops: available 24/7, with titles such as Full Frontal Learning, Just Enough Time Management, Tactical Motivation and Procrastination Avoidance, and Stress Management. The workshops are available on the Academic Skills website.
- Academic Skills Consultation: available for individual attention regarding any issue relating to success strategies during your time at McMaster. Unfortunately, we do not offer academic advising (e.g. course selection); reinstatement or appeals counselling; assessment of academic competence (e.g. support letters for non-disability related academic consideration); or proofreading services. For more information on Academic Skills and for other resources, click here. To make an appointment with an Academic Skills counsellor, please call (905) 525-9140 ext. 24711.
