Maps and Air Photos

The Lloyd Reeds Map Collection, Mills Library has:

current and superseded editions of City street maps with land use information, HSR bus route maps, trail maps, walking tour maps, topographic maps, fire insurance plans (Ancaster 1947 & 1964) and air photos from 1919-2005.

An Ancaster base map prepared for use on this assignment is available to download or print from the link below. A paper master copy is available for photocopying in the Lloyd Reeds Map Collection.

The City of Hamilton website, map.hamilton.ca includes:

  • "Map Gallery": hundreds of pre-produced maps in Adobe Acrobat format for viewing or printing.
  • "Interactive Mapper": zoom, pan, turn layers in the map legend on and off, switch to air photo layer, view and print.

City Directories show what person or what business was located at an address in a specific year. McMaster Library has the following suburban city directories for the City of Hamilton which cover Ancaster:

  • Current edition (2013) is kept at the Mills Library Service Desk, 2012 edition at the Thode Library Service Desk.
  • 1950 to 1996 editions are in microfilm format and are kept in the Map Collection
  • 1997-2011 editions are in paper format and are kept in the Map Collection
