The Lloyd Reeds Map Collection supports the geographic research needs of students, staff and faculty at McMaster University.

'The Collection' was started more than 60 years ago by McMaster Geography Professor Lloyd George Reeds and today consists of more than 130,000 paper maps, 18,000 air photos and 3,000 atlases. The collection also contains thousands of historical maps, many of which have been digitized and made available online in order to support research worldwide.

In its role as the Library's Maps, Data & GIS Centre, it also supplies researchers with access to a wide range of geospatial map and data sets and provides PC workstations with specialized cartographic and statistical software.

The Collection has its own flexible classroom with SmartBoard that seats up to 40 students and converts quickly to a study area with tables when not in use. Stereoscopes, planimeters and opisometers can be obtained from staff for use with maps and air photos in the Map Collection.

Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Members of the general public are welcome, however, some resources and services may be limited to McMaster affiliates only.
