An emerging form of scholarship is getting a running start at McMaster, with strong support from a forward-looking couple who had a special understanding of the power of learning.

With an official opening celebration Friday, the Lewis & Ruth Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship formally begins its work, helping graduate students and faculty members process huge amounts of data to reveal new information that would not have been possible to find even a few short years ago.

McMaster 24 Hour Film Festival: Creative Minds Put to the Test

The Lyons New Media Centre (LNMC) and Science Media Lab of McMaster University hosted a 24 hour film festival for students, faculty, staff and alumni on September 28, 2012.  Creative minds had the opportunity to showcase their video production skills by creating a short film with 24 hours while incorporating three key elements: a randomly assigned prop, a line of dialogue and a location.  Prior to the kickoff of the event, the LNMC hosted workshops and provided learning resources to help participants with the production process.  Mentors were available before the event to answer questions a

McMaster Libraries Host Annual Toy and Food Drive

McMaster's Libraries are pleased to host once again this year's Annual Toy and Food Drive, in support of the Hamilton chapter of the Salvation Army's Christmas Bureau. The Bureau collects and distributes new toys, gift cards, non-perishable food items as well as toys and food for family pets, going directly to their clients who are in need of assistance in our community. This year's Drive runs from November 26 to December 18.

Hidden documents connect us to a concentration camp survivor

At first glance, the tiny brown-paper books look completely ordinary. Opening them, you find their small pages filled with penciled text, smudged from handling and the passage of time. A reader with a knowledgeable eye might discern that they are written in Polish. Told that they date from the Second World War, the picture may start to become clearer.

Over the summer months we re-aligned some of our study spaces.

In Mills Library, the 6th floor is now a Silent Study Area. Here you will find approximately 250 carrels, more than 2/3 of which will have access to power. 

This area is to remain Silent at all times. We expect there to be no talking, socializing, music or cell phone use, and would ask that cell phone ringers are turned off when using this area.

McMaster announced today a gift of $700,000 from TD Bank Group to help students with disabilities better access the full services of the University libraries and to create a dynamic learning space for business students at its newest campus, the Ron Joyce Centre.

A significant collection of advertising campaign materials from some of North America's most iconic brands - Molson, Coca Cola, Pepsi, McDonald's, General Motors and Budweiser among them - has been donated to McMaster University from the Pirate Group.
